Trail Description

ebike allowed or not caveat

E-bikes NOT allowed on South Waldo Lake

South Waldo Lake trail climbs steeply from the intersection of Mt Ray trail if headed South. There are a couple rocky drainage crossings to navigate to keep you on your toes and some of the pitches will test your endurance and leg strength. From here the trail is more rolling the terrain opens up quite a bit to old growth hemlock and rock outcroppings. Near the intersection with Fuji Mountain Trail # 3674 the trail passes between the Island Lakes and continues on to Mt. Ray trail. The Island lakes are a sight to see. Small, pristine and enchanting.

North of the Mt Ray Trail intersection the South Waldo Lake trail enters the Waldo Lake Wilderness which is Closed to Bikes. South of Fuji Mountain trail the trail becomes a little more remote and can be overgrown to the point of being almost invisible the farther south you travel.

Only rode between Fuji and Mt Ray, but it was all good except for one rotted log.

  7. J.J. Johnston

Started at the south end. It’s pretty overgrown. Several trees down too.

    1. Joe Myers

Yeah, that trail needs some serious love. Doesn’t get much use.

  8. Joe Myers

Definitely a better ride heading toward waldo, as there are a couple extremely steep pitches which are too steep to climb if heading the other direction.

  9. Marc Fortier

Camped at Upper Island Lake, and the mosquitoes were only a nuisance in the morning. Great lake for a swim – with a sandy shore, and a deep rocky bottom. Trail is perfection right now. Ripe with huckleberries too.

  10. Joe Myers

Parked at the South end of this trail a few days ago to start a ride and the trail is VERY overgrown. Mosquitoes were also fierce. This section from the road to Fuji trail was logged out about a week ago and the plan is to get it ridden in more so it doesn’t disappear again.
