Trail Description

ebike allowed or not caveat

 E-bikes NOT allowed on S.S.T.

The S.S.T. trail (aka: the Swampy Swede Tie) runs from Swede Shelter over to The Swampy Loop and is a less frequently used route than Swede Ridge. Where the Ridge could be considered fast and flowy, S.S.T. is more of a technical grind. The reward for riding it the dense old growth — and some nice technical challenges along the way.

This trail is maintained by Central Oregon Trail Alliance.

  1. John Scott

SST has about 9 downed trees on it. One unusable but relatively short section of snow. Otherwise running well.

  2. johnmo48

Cleared the final 5 trees on SST. It is clear of snow and trees.

  3. johnmo48

Cleared 8 trees closest to the Shelter this morning. Still 2 or 3 trees on the West side.

  4. Colin Mcvey

1 tree left, needs a bigger saw. Close to Swede shelter

    1. Don Leet

SST Clear of trees and snow

  5. Natalie Herse

One small section of snow otherwise great tread. Probably 10ish trees down.

  6. BendTrails

8-10” tree reported about half way down the trail. Elevated. Second tree about 6″ on the ground – and easily ridden over. Destination unknown.

  7. Jeff Moore

12” tree down about 1/2 mile from shelter

  8. Gary Meyer

Deadfall has been cleared. One snow patch remaining.

  9. BendTrails

Two large trees on the trail. Once can be stepped over and one has a ‘branch-ramp’ you can ride over. One big snow patch to get across but it won’t be there for long.

  10. Cog Wild

    Clear and riding well!

  11. BendTrails

    Trees cleared Today. All clear.

  12. Ben McLeod

The dirt is all time, but beware of a tree down around halfway between Swampy and Swede. It would be on a downhill if you are headed toward Swede.

  13. Bruce Bradshaw

Single good sized tree across. On the ridge, but not far from the downhill heading west.

    1. Gary Meyer

      SST has been cleared.

  14. Max Lavinsky

Most of the snow is gone, maybe 2 short hike a bike sections. I counted 3 trees still down after I was able to move 1

  15. Natalie Herse

A bit of snowy adventure hike a bike but a whole lot of dry flowy trail too. Probably wait another week if you’d rather not walk. Three trees down, 6” to 12” in diameter – two within the first 1/4 mile (going east to west) and the other at mile 1.7.

  16. Peter Parker

Trail is in great shape. Thanks for clearing the trails.

  17. Robert Rekward

One tree down about a mile from Swampy. 8” or so. Sort of hidden on a fast downhill corner.

    1. Ryan Pedersen

      Cleared it

  18. Jeff Moore

Riding well except for a couple of snow patch’s and two large trees (2feet) at around halfway about a half mile apart

  19. Dan Brown

Still large patches of snow. Made it through, but there was some hike-a-bike required.

    1. Joe Myers

It’s perfect. Thank you trail fairies!

    2. Jay Marsh

Wow, rode SST on the 8th and there was a ton of blowdown. All I could think of is how much work the volunteers have to do to clear a trail. Can’t believe it’s cleared in a day! You guys rock. Thanks for your dedication to the trails!!!!!

  30. Bryan Bergstedt

“Rode” SST from Swede to Swampy today. Lost count of how many trees are down and blocking the trail. Would guess there must be 40+. The last mile was nice – Thank You!

  31. Joe Myers

Cleared about 1.25 miles in from swampy on SST today with Erika. Still lots of blowdown and don’t advise traveling on SST.

  32. Joel Blatt

Don’t know S.S.T. acronym, but do know to avoid this trail; it is currently definition of “deadfall.”
