Trail Description

ebike allowed or not caveat

 E-bikes allowed on Pinedrops

Pinedrops is mainly used as a climbing trail which leads to the top of Lower Whoops, The East end of the trail is located about 50 yards South of lower Whoops along road 300. The trail winds through large Ponderosa Pines and is a nice singletrack alternative to the road 310 fire road climb. It’s also fun to ride down if you aren’t into the jumps of lower whoops or the steep, techy terrain of Upper Phil’s/Helipad.

This trail is maintained by Central Oregon Trail Alliance.

Recent Reports

  1. Chris Bailey

The snow is really just on the top mostly 1/4 of it, totally rideable, but FYI.

  2. Jim Burton

Thanks, COTA for the 2 new trail segments that route the trail off of the logging roads. Nice improvement!

  3. Grace Ogawa

A few snowy banks right at the top, other than that it’s all dirt!

  4. Chris Bailey

    Clear and riding well today.

  5. Barney Gill

    Pinedrops completely clear.

  6. BendTrails

    Some snow still up high.

  7. Brian Thomas Coop

We did three Pine-whoops laps on fatties this afternoon and packed in a solid track. It was nuking out there, though, so it’s gonna need some effort to keep it going.

  8. Grace Ogawa

Rode it in the AM of 11/7 — snow is here! Light stuff as of yet, and good riding when the ground is frozen. Better to stay off it when it’s thawed—gonna be real soupy.

  9. BendTrails

Starting Monday 10/18 Pinedrops is closed monday – friday for forest restoration

  10. Dustin Balderach

One tree down (not logging related) about a quay of the way up. Easy ride around getting ridden in.

  11. Grace Ogawa

Rode up about 4/5 of the way this morning. I’m rating it Ridable Snow with two big caveats:

You want at least 4” wide tires.

Top 1/5 is too deep to ride UP, but would probably be good for descending. Possibly ridable if there’s a nice hard freeze and we get a crust.

The post holes from hikers have almost completely filled in so it’s a nice descent if you can make it up!

  12. Grace Ogawa

Rode down Sunday morning. Deep snow at the top fading to ridable snow by the bottom, but lots of post holes from a hiker. Had to do some snow-hiking at the top as there wasn’t quite enough crust. Definitely fat-bike worthy.

  13. Jimmy Thefly

Perfect dirt and zero down trees.

  14. Dustin Balderach

    All good, nothing to report.

  15. Steve Smith

In great shape, only two small snowy/icy patches at the top.

  16. Tim Maddux

All clear, no snow, as of 5/12.

  17. Ryan Pedersen

Just a few small snow patches left on the bottom 99.9%. The very last 30 feet has a good size patch that might not be totally rideable but shouldn’t be around too much longer.

  18. Dennis OSullivan

Same as Robert’s description. You will encounter snow about 3/4 of the way up.

  19. Robert Crocker

The top half has lots of snow, you can get through but not recommended.

  20. Colin Mcvey

1″ of sheet ice with 1/8″ of powder on top. Made it up with some breaking of new trail, seems the rain froze into the hardpacked areas to make ice but the unpacked areas were able to absorb.

  21. Brett Farrell

Climbed Pinedrops on the fatty this morning in 2-4″ of fresh, untracked snow. Snow packed down nicely with 4-5psi in 4.8’s setup tubeless.

  22. Barkin Aygun

    Clean as a whistle.

  23. John Scott

    Fantastic conditions. No debris.

  24. Jon Skyline

Great shape. Solid track the whole way up. Lots of cones in the tree areas, but otherwise clear of any debris.

  25. Ryan Pedersen

Great riding on a fat bike today! Cleared the one and only tree that was down.

  26. Natalie Herse

2” new over somewhat crunchy but packed snow. A little bumpy going down but still lots of fun and nary a soul out there today.

  27. Laura Coombs

Found a fresh layer of snow over some prior tracks the day before. Rode up and down and back up to pack it in! Great riding right now!

  28. Siobhan McNulty

Christmas Eve fatbike ride on packed snow = outstanding conditions. Great going up and amazing going down due to grippy snow.

  29. Robert Rekward

Climbed Pinedrops today on the fattie. 100% awesome.

  30. Brent Edens

Trail clear to the top (and well beyond!)

Out of curiosity, why the re-route?

    1. Joe Myers

Pinedrops was never a planned or official trail, so once it got into that phase it needed to get re-routed to avoid some important areas or something.

  31. Patrecia Hedges

Well packed today. Could be ridden with a regular MTB.

  32. Natalie Herse

Hero dirt to start then transitioned to grippy, crusty snow tread as I climbed higher. Really sweet, no mud.

  33. Mike Spencer

Slushy & puddles on upper/old section, new lower section mostly packed snow – probably snow melt is soaking through better there.

  34. Ryan Pedersen

Trail has been rerouted but basically in the same area. Snow was completely packed down from tons of fat bike traffic yesterday. As long as it stays cold you could ride a CX bike on it (but please don’t)

  35. Dustin Balderach

All dry, no snow or mud in sight. One blown down about 3/4 (??) of the way up. Can ride around it. Lots of pine needles but riding great!

  36. Eric Meade

Totally clear now with no snow to the top of Lower Whoops. Getting dusty already.

  37. Eric Kutter

Totally clear on the climb. Just one hike-a-bike snow patch as you hit the road by the bench.

  38. Tristan S

Several patches of snow starting about 3/4ths of the way up. They get progressively larger as you head to the Whoops / Skyliners intersection. One tree down towards the top.

  39. Eric Kutter

Lower 0.8 miles from rd 300 riding great, and then you hit snow. Looked pretty patchy glancing up the hill so should start melting quickly.

  40. David Welton

This is a great alternative to the hordes of people on Whoops, both up and down.

  41. Chris Morgan

This trail may be unsanctioned, but it doesn’t stop everyone and their sister from riding it!
