Trail Description

ebike allowed or not caveat

E-bikes NOT allowed on Iron Mountain

Iron Mountain is a steep, scenic and heavily hiked trail that starts on the North side of Highway 20. Expect open meadows, volcanic craggy rock formations and abundant wildflowers in season.

We recommend riding up the trail, connecting to Cone Peak Trail to form a clockwise loop back to Highway 2o to minimize bike use on this particular trail. Riding uphill should not cause any conflict with hikers. Avoid peak times and weekends when hikers may be out in droves. Ride responsibly, especially on the upper portions of this trail which are very hike-a-bike.

If you want to ride fast and loose with almost no interruption, then you are better off heading to Browder Ridge and Gate Creek.

Recent Reports

  1. Big Fatty

note fire activity in the area. Trail appears open but trailhead closed on fire map.

  2. Scott Fairbanks

Hiked to within a half-mile from top. Three downed logs across trail. Turned around at large snow patch. Probably navigable but I was running short on day. Will probably be clear in next couple days.
